Evan Horwitz is an actor and playwright who has been described by an online quiz as “the meanest tropical fish available.” He holds an MFA from Brown University/Trinity Repertory Company, where he was awarded the David Wickham Prize in Playwriting.

Evan’s favorite thing to do is work with playwrights of extraordinary vision bring their worlds and characters to life. He collaborates as frequently as possible with playwright Julia Izumi, for whom he has originated several roles. He’s proud to have developed roles for playwrights as varied as Regina Taylor, Midgalia Cruz, Jim Lewis, Melinda Lopez, Jonathan Caren, Lucas Baisch, and Bailey Williams.

Other recent highlights include Ragtime (Trinity Rep), Tiny Beautiful Things (Baltimore Center Stage), and It’s A Wonderful Life (Alabama Shakespeare Festival). His solo show Anne Frank Live at the Plaza! has appeared at Dixon Place and Access Theater.

Evan writes plays about odd women and fancy boys. Most recently, he created and wrote the hit audio rom-com series Christmasuzannukkah, starring Amy Sedaris.

Evan served as the Artistic Associate at The COOP, working alongside Andrus Nichols and an extraordinary group of theater artists seeking more ethical and equitable ways of working. His additional training includes work at La Mama Umbria and the British American Drama Academy. He holds a B.A. in English from Bowdoin College.
